Tips for Caring for Your Dentures or Dental Implants

Older couple smiling after appointment at Wanserski Dental Center for Complex Dentistry in Wausau, WIDentures and dental implants allow people to eat, speak, and smile confidently. Like natural teeth, dentures and implants need daily care and attention to stay clean and functional. Here are useful tips to help care for your prosthetic teeth.

Clean Thoroughly Every Day

Use a soft bristle toothbrush to gently clean all surfaces of your dentures or implants each day. This removes plaque that can damage prosthetic materials over time. Hand soap or mild dish soap can be used for cleaning. Avoid abrasive toothpastes. Soak and rinse dentures after each meal to keep them fresh. If you have dental implants, you will need to floss around and under them every day.

Practice Proper Storage and Handling

Always hold your dentures carefully to avoid dropping them. Ensure proper fit by using dental adhesive if needed. Place a soft cloth at the bottom of the storage container in case dentures drop while removing or inserting them. Never wrap dentures in paper towels or tissues.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water to keep the surface of your mouth moist for dentures. Adequate hydration also supports dental implant integration and health. Reduce dry mouth symptoms by avoiding alcohol, caffeine, smoking, and mouth breathing.

Visit Your Dentist Regularly

See your dentist every six months, even if you have full dentures or implants. Your dentist will check fit, function, and underlying oral health. Ill-fitting dentures can alter facial structure over time. An unhealthy mouth environment can lead to implant failure.

Keep Smiling Brightly

Caring daily for your customized dental solutions ensures you have enjoyed a beautiful, confident smile for years. Simple cleaning, hydration, proper handling, and regular professional checks allow dentures and implants to function optimally.
