When you're considering dental implants, you probably think about how they will affect your mouth. You think about how they will fix your smile, improve your bite, and help reduce the risk of a number of different oral issues. You probably don't think about your overall face or how you look when you have your mouth closed. However, with dental implants, you can actually give yourself something of a facelift! How Do Dental Implants Make You Look Younger? One of the most visible signs of aging in the face happens when your jaw, chin, and cheeks start to shrink and become more hollow-looking. If you have missing teeth, this process occurs more quickly. The jawbone around the missing tooth becomes weaker because the body doesn't see a need for it any longer and cuts off nutrients. As the jawbone in this part of the mouth is absorbed back into the body, your face starts to look shrunken. That, naturally, makes you look older. Dental implants undo this shrinkage. They aren't like dentures. Instead of a set of false teeth that you place in your mouth during the day, implants are permanent replacements. The posts act like the roots of your teeth, strengthening the jawbone and, in many ways, become a part of your body. They're fully integrated into the mouth. The body sees that this part of the jawbone is still supporting something, even if it's not your natural teeth, and so it continues to strengthen the bone. Do You Need Implants? While you're likely not going to get dental implants just to look younger, it is a great additional benefit to the procedure. If you're missing teeth, you do need to come see us to discuss your options. If you don't, you risk losing bone density and a number of other issues. Call today for an appointment. |
