![]() What is a Dental Inlay?A dental inlay is a filling. However, instead of it being done inside the mouth, it is one that is made outside the mouth. This is a great way to fill a hole that is inside the tooth but also one that is going to last for some time because of the extra bonding that is placed around the inlay in the tooth. Placing the filling inside the cusps of the tooth makes it known as an inlay because it is sitting inside these cusps. If it goes outside of them, it is known as an onlay. Why Do You Need an Inlay? This is the best option when you have a broken or decayed tooth where the cusps of the tooth are not affected by it. The tooth may break or crack more if a regular filling is put in it. This will help to keep the overall structure intact, while filling and repairing the tooth. There is not enough tooth to be removed and then a crown placed over it, making the need for an inlay required. Speak with our office today regarding the dental work you need to have done.
