What You Never Want to Do When You Have Dental Bonding

What You Never Want to Do When You Have Dental BondingIf you have undergone a teeth bonding procedure, you need to take good care of your teeth to avoid setbacks. Dental bonding is an effective dental procedure that can help restore your tooth appearance. However, a lack of proper care will cause damage to the dental bonding. Therefore, you should clean your teeth regularly and avoid hard and staining foods.

Avoid Hard Foods

The bonding resin used on your teeth is soft and vulnerable, especially during the first few weeks. Therefore, until it is fully set up and hard enough, you should avoid foods that can cause damage. Chewy and hard foods can easily damage the bonding resin, affecting its functionality. Some of the hard foods you should avoid include raw vegetables and fruits like apples and carrots. If you have to eat these foods, cook them until they are soft enough to bite and chew effortlessly.

Avoid Staining Foods

Dental bonding is more vulnerable to staining than the natural enamel. This makes it important to avoid foods and beverages that can cause stains. Staining the bonding resin while it is still setting up can cause permanent stains. Some of the beverages you should avoid include red wine, tea, and coffee. If you have to drink these beverages, you should always use a straw. By doing so, you direct the drink to the back of your mouth, limiting contact with teeth. When drinking tea, you should take small sips and swallow them right away. This will also limit contact with the dental resin.

Lack of Regular Cleaning

Another thing you should avoid when having dental bonding is going for days without cleaning your teeth. This will lead to the accumulation of plaque and food particles which can lead to infections. It is important to clean your teeth by brushing and flossing on a regular basis. Visit our offices for more information on taking care of dental bonding.
