Dental cleanings are an important part of preventive dental care and are part of the annual dental check-ups you need at least once or twice a year. Getting the teeth cleaned helps support your oral health. Dental cleanings help ensure that the teeth and gums remain healthy. They help remove any debris, plaque or tartar that has buildup and which could lead to dental problems such as tooth decay.
How Often Should You Have Dental Cleanings?
It depends on your specific oral needs because every patient is different. You may find that some patients are more prone to experiencing dental issues meaning that they need to see our prosthodontist more often. Those patients who hardly experience dental issues require less frequent teeth cleanings. As a guideline, patients need to have dental cleaning done every six months. Some may need to come to our dental office for cleanings every three months. Others will need to come after nine or 12 months. Additionally, if your gum disease was in advanced stage, it may mean that you get routine cleanings more frequently, even less than three months.
In Between Dental Cleanings
It is paramount that you maintain good oral care to ensure a healthy mouth in between professional dental cleanings. You should brush at least twice a day with soft-bristled toothbrush. Ensure you floss your teeth once a day. You may consider using mouthwash to help keep bad bacteria away and ensure fresh breath.
So when was the last time you had dental cleanings? If you have not seen a dentist for professional dental cleanings in the past year, it is important you schedule an appointment ASAP. Our prosthodontist will help determine how often you should receive routine cleanings based on your oral health and the results of your dental deep cleaning. Remember that once you have deep cleaning, you will need to schedule appointments for routine cleanings for maintenance purposes. Contact our prosthodontic team today!
