Cantilever Dental Bridges
A cantilever bridge is best for patients who have no natural teeth on one side of the missing teeth. This way, only one abutment tooth supports the replacement tooth. While cantilever bridges are very efficient, they are not advisable for replacements located at the back of the mouth as they can cause a strain on the support tooth.
Maryland Bonded Bridges
Maryland bridges are also known as resin-bonded bridges. They are suitable for replacing teeth that are at the front of the mouth. Maryland bridges employ metallic or porcelain bands to secure a pontic (replacement) tooth to the back of the supporting teeth. With Maryland bridges, patients do not have to get their adjacent teeth reshaped. While Maryland bridges are not suitable for places with much biting or chewing force, they provide an esthetic finish.
