How To Properly Clean Denture Adhesive Off Your Dentures

Posted on 9/5/2022 by Dr. David Wanserski
How To Properly Clean Denture Adhesive Off Your DenturesIt is recommended that you remove dentures from your mouth for at least six of the 24 hours for good oral health. This time should be used to clean them and allow the gum tissue to rest. Even though it is possible to remove dentures with no adhesive residue on your gums, it is not always the case. Therefore, you need to find ways of removing denture adhesive off your dentures. Here are ways you can properly remove denture adhesive off your dentures.

Warm Water

If your denture adhesive is hard and cannot come off easily, you should rinse it with warm water. To do so, take a sip of warm water and swirl it aggressively in your mouth for about a minute. After the adhesive is removed, repeat the procedure three more times to ensure all the adhesive residue is removed.

Saline Solution

Another good method of removing denture adhesive from your gums and dentures is rinsing your mouth with a mixture of water and salt. Mix half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water and make sure it is completely dissolved. After that, rinse your mouth with the solution to break down the denture adhesive. Rinse it twice to get rid of all the remaining denture residue.

Toothbrush

You can also use a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove dentures adhesives from your gums. Using a toothbrush is beneficial because it also keeps your oral health in good condition. It is recommended that you brush your dentures at least once a day to get rid of bacteria and food debris.

Mouthwash

Using mouthwash will not only freshen your breath but also loosen the denture adhesive. It does so by breaking down the adhesive, making it easy to come off. Visit our offices for more information on how to get rid of denture adhesive.
