Digital X-Rays
Wausau, WI

A dental assistant showing a digital x-ray to a patient at Wanserski Dental Center for Complex Dentistry in Wausau, WIDental exams are incredibly important. Routine dental exams and cleanings enable us to look over the condition of your mouth and determine early warning signs of oral health concerns. This allows for immediate treatment in the early stages, preventing more serious issues from developing. Sometimes, exams are required when you are experiencing symptoms of a specific issue. The exam allows us to determine what is causing your symptoms so you can receive the most effective treatment possible. A major part of examining your mouth is visually inspecting the structures within. However, there are many parts of your mouth that cannot be seen with the naked eye. At Wanserski Dental Center for Complex Dentistry, we can examine these hidden areas of your mouth with digital X-rays.

Do I Really Need X-Rays?

X-rays are an integral part of dental exams, whether a routine dental exam or an exam to diagnose the cause of specific symptoms. They allow us to see the hidden areas of your mouth, including the spaces between your teeth, the roots of your teeth, and your jawbone. With these images, we can see a variety of different issues, including:

•  Cavities between teeth.
•  Root cavities.
•  Root damage.
•  Damage to your jawbone, such as a fracture.
•  Bone loss.
•  Abscesses and cysts.
•  Tumors in the bone.
•  Impacted teeth.

What are Digital Dental X-Rays?

X-rays have been a part of dentistry for over 100 years. They have been used regularly since the 1950s. Traditionally, taking these important images was done using radiation. Following imaging, the pictures would need to be developed. This required a dark room and time away from the appointment. Additionally, incredibly small details could go overlooked.

Today, we use digital dental X-ray technology. Rather than radiation, digital X-rays use electronic technology to capture these necessary images. We place a sensor, which is attached to a computer, into your mouth. The sensor is adjusted as needed, and a button is clicked on the computer. Images are displayed almost immediately on the computer monitor.

What are the Benefits of Digital Dental X-Rays?

Digital dental X-rays provide numerous benefits. One of the biggest benefits for many patients is significantly reduced exposure to radiation. The radiation exposure of traditional X-rays causes concern for many patients and can cause them to refuse essential imaging or avoid dental care altogether. In many cases, digital dental X-rays reduce radiation exposure by up to 95%.

Images captured by digital X-rays are displayed almost immediately on the computer monitor. There is no more need to develop them in a separate darkroom. In most cases, we do not even need to leave the room. This enables us to devote all of your appointment time to you. We can better help you understand your diagnosis and go over your treatment options, so you feel more confident in your dental care.

Once the images are on the computer screen, we can use specialized software to examine them more closely. We can zoom in on suspect areas and enhance them for clarity. As a result, we can see the smallest details of your mouth for a more accurate diagnosis and more effective treatment plan.

Digital dental X-rays allow us to more effectively examine your mouth so that we can accurately diagnose issues and recommend the best treatments possible. For more information, contact Wanserski Dental Center for Complex Dentistry at (715) 848-2435 today!
